THANKFUL THURSDAY & SLOW COOKING THURSDAY

Good Mornin' Yall,
I do hope that everyone had a great Wednesday and ready to start a new day. It is currently 31 degrees with a windchill of 31 degrees. The winds are calm this morning, so I guess that is a good thing. Yesterday was a pretty day with the Sun shinning. It made it up to 42 degrees yesterday but was still on the chilly side. It is suppose to get up to around 53 degrees today and even a little warmer for the weekend. By Sunday, it is suppose to be up around 64 degrees. I think we have a chance for some Rain Showers over the weekend as well.

Today is "THANKFUL THURSDAY" once again. If you would like to participate in the "THANKFUL THURSDAY", go and visit Iris@ http://eph2810.com/ and sign the Mr. Linky and leave Iris a message and then post your "THANKFUL THURSDAY" on your blog. Today's topic on "THANKFUL THURSDAY" is about GLORY. Here is what the definition of GLORY is about in the Webster's Dictionary: 1a) praise, honor, or distinction extended by common consent : renown b: worshipful praise, honor, and thanksgiving . This week I am "THANKFUL" for giving GOD all the GLORY he has done for me and in my life. I am "THANKFUL" for GOD and HIS GLORY here in Blogland. So many of you have been there when I needed a friend to pray for me and my Family. I am "THANKFUL" for GOD'S GLORY he bestowed on the CROSS for me and you. I am "THANKFUL" that my DH made it home on Tuesday night and able to stay all night at home with us. I am "THANKFUL" that I can give GOD all the GLORY for leading my DH to a new job this year. I am "THANKFUL" that I can give GOD all the GLORY for getting us out of a bad financial situation we have had. GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME, GOD IS GOOD!!!! I am "THANKFUL" I can give GOD all the GLORY for everything. What do you have to be "THANKFUL" for on this "THANKFUL THURSDAY"? If you would like to leave a comment, please feel free to do so. And don't forget, it you want to participate, please go and visit Iris.

Today is also Slow Cooking Thursday. If you would like to participate in Slow Cooking Thursday, it is hosted by Sandra@ http://familycorner.blogspot.com/. Just go visit Sandra and sign the Mr. Linky and then post a Slow Cooker Recipe on your blog.
Today, I am going to share with you my version of Hamburger Helper that you can cook in a Slow Cooker. You will need a Family pack of Ground Chuck. This may come in 2-4 pound packages. It all just depends on how much you want to cook or how long you want to eat on it. LOL. Everyone has their own preferences. You can do this the night before you want to have it on the next night. Now you all know that I boil my Ground Chuck. After you have boiled it, be sure to drain it and rinse it off real good. Add your Ground Chuck to your Slow Cooker. You can also chop up some onion or bell peppers to add if you want to. Take 2 packages of any flavor of Hamburger Helper that you like. Since we all like the Cheeseburger flavored Hamburger Helper, I use this kind. Add everything to your Slow Cooker as told on the back of the box. You will have to add some Milk and Water as directed on the back of the box as well. Make sure you mix everything up real good. Put the lid on the Slow Cooker and set the temperature to about Low to Medium. Let this cook all night and it will probably be done by morning. If it is, you can turn your Slow Cooker down to just Low and it will stay good and hot until Dinner time.

I am going to share with you another segment on Black History. This is on The Entrenchment of Slavery Within America. Again, I am getting this from our local T.V. Station's Website. You can find out more about it here on this link@ http://www.kait8.com/Global/story.asp?S=5994385. Here is the information about it.

Slavery became a highly profitable system for white plantation owners in the colonial South. In South Carolina, successful slave owners took advantage of the fact that at the end of the 17th century, some of the earliest African arrivals had shown English settlers how rice could be grown in the swampy coastal environment. With cheap and permanent workers available in the form of slaves, plantation owners realized this strange new crop could make them rich. As rice boomed, land owners found the need to import more African slaves to clear the swamps where the rice was grown and to cultivate the crop. By 1710, scarcely 15 years after rice came to Carolina, Africans began to out-number Europeans in South Carolina.
Slavery was rapidly becoming an entrenched institution in American society, but it took brutal force to impose this sort of mass exploitation upon once-free people.
"If you're an authority, you're constantly trying to figure how tightly you want to impose the lid with respect to people running away. How fierce should the punishments be? Should it be a whipping? Should it be the loss of a finger or a hand or a foot? Should it be wearing shackles perpetually," questioned Peter Wood, a Carolina slave owner.
Soon authorities developed laws to keep the African American population under control. Whipping, branding, dismembering, castrating, or killing a slave were legal under many circumstances. A few white men, although in the minority, balked at the cruelty toward African slaves. Francis Le Jau, an Anglican minister who oversaw a church built on land donated by the Middletons, spoke against the cruelty of slavery. Samuel Sewall, a Boston judge, wrote a pamphlet called The Selling of Joseph, criticizing slavery.
Georgia, the last free colony, legalized slavery in 1750. That meant slavery was now legal in each of the thirteen British colonies that would soon become the United States. But the conflict between those who supported racial enslavement and those who believed in freedom was only just beginning.
In the tumultuous generation of the American Revolution, protests against "enslavement" by Britain and demands for American "liberty " would become common in the rebellious colonies, and many African Americans, both slave and free, had high hopes that the rhetoric of Independence would apply to them. These hopes, however, would eventually be dashed, and it would take a bloody civil war three generations later to finally bring an end to the enslavement of black Americans.

Our girls are out of School today. The boys Senior High Basketball Team are in the State Play-Offs in Jessieville, AR. I have no clue where that's at. LOL. Anyway, since some of the Families were wanting to go, they decided to cancel School for today. GO REBELS!!!! I have no idea who they will be playing. But I do wish them the BEST OF LUCK!!!!

Last night for our supper we had some of the Cheeseburger flavored Hamburger Helper. It was still good. I had some Hamburger Buns left from when we had the Cheeseburgers that my DH had cooked over the weekend and I put a Bun on my plate and poured the Hamburger Helper over it. It was good that way. There is still some left and we will have some tonight for our supper. My DH sure did enjoy it and the Indian Bread on Tuesday night when he got home. He left out yesterday around Noon and they were going to Memphis to pick up their Minnesota load. I miss him already and hopefully if the weather co-operates with them up North, they will be home sometime on Friday morning. Guess I will go for now and have my coffee and do some visiting. If I'm not here, please help yourself to a cup of coffee. If you don't want any coffee, I have some Tea that you can help yourself to. You will have to heat you up some water tho. Take care my friends and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

LOVE & HUGS,

Only in a small town with lots of school spirit, and only one high school, could you get a day off for a tournament. Nice!

Thanks for coming to visit Colorado - now your DH is heading to Minnesota, where I grew up a lot of my childhood/teen years.

Yesterday it was like spring, in the 50s. Today it is blowing like crazy out there and it only got down to 45. Supposed to be 68 on Saturday and then snow on Sunday. It is a crazy place to live, but beautiful.

Have a great Thursday!

Hey gal, glad to hear you are doing better!

Darn that coffee pot...if you don't want to keep it up there it will not hurt my feelings...I'm sure maybe if you searched around you could find one that works maybe.

Have a wonderful day!

Helped myself to a cup of coffee, and sat down to read.

I also hope the weather cooperates for your hubby on his trip and that he can get home on Friday.

The weather is not cooperating for me up here. I want to go and visit our son and the fog is so thick I can't see down the hill. Oh well I will wait for awhile and see if it clears up. It's a two hour drive and if the visibility is bad even longer.

God bless.

Hi Karen
I can't believe it's Thursday again already. This week has just flown by. I'm going to pick up one or two of the awards from your post yesterday. I love your cross-stitch style dividers today. I hope your girls had fun on their day off school.

Good morning Karen! I can say that today cause I got up early to get here. I didn't want to get left out on that coffee!!

I enjoyed your post today just as I do every day. It's always filled with downhome goodness! Yesterday I went to the store and got some Hamburger Helper! See what you do to me? I was craving it after reading your post! LOL We are going to have it for supper tonight. I've never tried it in the crock pot but I'm sure that would be good too. We like the stroganoff kind. I've also never had it on a bun but I know I'd like that too!

The backwards message is: How many of you were skeptical about my talent? You did real well and only missed one word..and without a mirror too! I guess your talent is reading backwards!! The hidden picture in the Power Vision is a butterfly on a flower! Thanks for playing my silly games! :o)

I hope the girls are enjoying their day off today!

Love and Hugs,
Hope

Karen,

Your hamburger dish sounds good. Did you see the one that Pea posted yesterday. It also looked good. The slow cooker is a great woman's friend. So much to do... so little time.

Thanks for participating in black history month. Isn't it sad that money won out over the freedom of these wonderful people. Very sad. I posted on Henry Bibb today. There's one more day left in black history month and then we're into other things. I have just added Internation Woman's Day to my sidebar because I knew if I waited for March, I would forget.

Enjoyed my visit.
Blessings,
Mary

That's cool about the boy's basketball being in the state championship playoff games!!! Yes, Go Rebels [you know I like the school team name...me being a rebel and all.]

Hope they win.

And for heaven's sake, I never realized you could cook hamburger helper in a slow cooker!!! I'll be darned. Learn something every day here.

Gotta run...try and catch up on other blog buddies I normally visit each day.

Good evening, Karen,

I'm late as usual, but had to stop by and check in. I hope you had a wonderful day with the girls, and now you probably can't wait for your DH to get home. We had a nice day today, didn't we? I was off and on the run most of the day. Have a good evening, and enjoy your time with your loving family.

Ok, so I'm a late visitor! lol Can't believe it's 11:30 p.m. and I'm still doing some visits. Won't you be surprised to wake up in the morning and find out I was sitting at your table having leftover coffee just before midnight! hehe

I actually just got off the phone with Steve...tomorrow he has to go have a hard cast put on his leg. They'll also x-ray it to make sure it's healing properly!!

Always enjoy your Thankful Thursdays and your Slow Cooking recipes...I never even thought of making hamburger helper in a crock pot! Sounds yummy!!

Also enjoyed reading up on more black history. If I'd been around in those days, I would have been one of the whites who completely rebelled against slavery:-)

Ok, bedtime for me...can hardly keep my eyes open!! See you in the morning:-) xoxo

Hi, Karen. I had Emmy today and Jessica came over early this afternoon to visit with Lamar's Mom here before she went on to work. I've had a full day! I fried some pork steak for supper, cooked a big pot of pinto beans and boiled some whole potatoes in their skins. The ones we didn't eat for supper I'll dice and fry real brown. My Mama always called those home fries. Yum!

Hope your hubby makes his run safely and you have a good Friday.

Love and hugs,

Diane

So sweet that your hubby has a new job and that he made it home safely :) It is good to have financial freedom :) I too have many friends online that have lifted my concerns before the throne of Grace.

Thank you so much for sharing your grateful heart with us this week.

Blessings to you and your precious family.
