PHRIDAY'S PHAVORITE PHOTO PHUN

Good Friday Mornin' Yall,
I do hope that everyone had a great Thursday and ready to start a new day. It is currently 30 degrees with a windchill of 19 degrees. The winds are out of the West at 15 mph. I am very sad this morning. We didn't get any Snow here yesterday. Nope, nothing that was accumulative anyway. All we got was mostly rain. Yesterday morning I had seen on t.v. where they was letting School out here at 11:30a.m. I decided to go pick the girls up since it was raining and I didn't want them to get wet when they got off from the bus. When I got ready to walk out the door, it was Sleeting and Raining with a little Snow mixed in with it. The Snow was too wet, so it wasn't sticking. By the time I had picked the girls up and on the way back home, it was just raining again. I really don't know why they even let School out. It never got bad around here. Now, places to the North of us and to the West of us got Snow. The temperatures hovered all day from 32 degrees to 34 degrees. Boo-hoo, Boo-hoo, Boo-hoo, Boo-hoo!!!! "THANK YOU" for letting me cry on your shoulder. I feel a tad bit better now. Sniff, sniff, sniff, sniff.
Today is PHRIDAY PHAVORITE PHOTO PHUN. It is hosted by Anni@ http://hootin--anni.blogspot.com/. If you would like to join in the fun, go and visit Anni and leave her a comment letting her know that you are participating. Today, I am going to share a picture that was taken of my DH when I was out on the road with him last year.

This was taken at a Big Truck Stop in Oklahoma. It was the neatest Truck Stop. I can't remember the name of the Truck Stop, but we stayed overnight there. This is the huge Statue that was in front of the Truck Stop and I had my DH to stand in front of it so I could take a picture of it. It is a Statue of an Indian. It was a neat place to stay. They had the Truck Stop in one place and then there was a Restaurant across from the Truck Stop. Inside the Restaurant they had alot of Indian artifacts and Indian pieces as well. We had a nice dinner inside the Restaurant and then the next morning before we left, we had a nice breakfast. This picture was taken in March of last year. Our girls were on Spring break and were staying with my Parents. It was the week of our Anniversary, so I wanted to be with my DH. I really enjoyed this place and seeing everything that was there. I hope you enjoyed my PHRIDAY PHAVORITE PHOTO PHUN.

Today is also National Wear Red Day. My friend Stephanie@ http://mississippisongbird.blogspot.com/ was telling me about this the other day. It is also posted on her blog today as well. Here is what Stephanie had to say about National Wear Red Day. Participate in National Wear Red Day February 1: Wear Red to Support and Heart Disease Awareness.

Friday, February 1, 2008, is National Wear Red Day—a day when Americans nationwide will take women's health to heart by wearing red to show their support for women's heart disease awareness. Although significant progress has been made in increasing awareness among women from 34 percent in 2000 to 57 percent in 2006—most women fail to make the connection between risk factors and their personal risk of developing heart disease.National Wear Red Day is an annual event held on the first Friday in February. On this day, women and men across the country will wear red to unite in the national movement to give women a personal and urgent wake-up call about their risk of heart disease. Everyone can participate by showing off a favorite red dress, shirt, or tie, or by wearing the Red Dress Pin (available at www.hearttruth.gov).Join this national effort by wearing red on February 1, and encourage your family, friends, and coworkers to do the same.By participating in National Wear Red Day, You are joining The Heart Truth. The Heart Truth is a national awareness campaign to alert women about their risk for heart disease and motivate them to take steps to lower their risk. The centerpiece of the campaign is the Red Dress—the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness. What's a Red Dress got to do with it? A simple Red Dress works as a visual red alert to get the message heard loud and clear: "Heart Disease Doesn't Care What You Wear—It's the #1 Killer of Women." Sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the campaign is reaching women with important heart health messages in community settings through a diverse network of national and grassroots partner organizations. Please join in and help spread the word about women and heart disease. For ideas and tools to help you participate in National Wear Red Day or to order a Red Dress Pin, visit http://www.hearttruth.gov/ .

So, be sure to wear something Red today to let everyone know about this.

Since the girls got out of School early yesterday, they were on their Lunch Break but didn't get to finish eating their lunch. They were hungry when I picked them up. So, we stopped by the Quick Shop and got us all a Grilled Cheeseburger. The Quick Shop is where we ate at the other night when our power was out. On Thursday's, they grill Hamburgers on the outside and serve them for lunch. We all got us a Cheeseburger and a bag of chips and came home and ate here. Since I didn't get to get me a nap yesterday morning, I layed back down and got one yesterday afternoon. When I got back up, I started cooking our supper. It was around 4:30p.m. I guess. I had a can of Pink Salmon that I had planned on using the other night, but since the power was off, I couldn't see to cook. So, last night I fixed us some Salmon Patties and made some Macaronni and Cheese. It was really good. While I'm on the subject of cooking, I had a few friends ask me yesterday about the boiling of Hamburger Meat. All you do is just take your Ground Chuck or whatever kind of Hamburger meat you use, and put it in a large pot and break it up and add some water and boil it until it's done. You will have to use a spoon to keep breaking it up as you are boiling it. After it had boiled, all you do next is drain it in a strainer. I have a large plastic strainer that I use for things like that. I rinse it off also. Then, after I have rinsed it off, I add it to whatever I am going to use it in. It is alot healthier by doing it this way. A Dietician told my Mother how to do this several years ago when my Dad found out he was a Diabetic and my Mom was having trouble with her Cholesterol. After I found out I was a Diabetic a few years ago, I started doing this as well. It's still good. By the time you add all your other ingredients and spices, you can't tell any difference than if it had been fried. There is my Cooking Tip for today. LOL. After I had cooked supper last night and washed all the dishes, I told the girls to get their baths so I could wash some jeans so they would have some clean jeans to wear today. I ended up doing 2 loads of laundry last night. I had a hard time going to sleep last night for some reason. It was after 1:00a.m. before I finally dozed off. I got back up at 4:15a.m. and started my coffee.

I called my DH around 4:25a.m. to see where he was at. Last time I talked to him last night, he was still in Wisconsin and he said it was Snowing on him then. I had told him last night that it had been snowing in St. Louis, MO, and they were getting alot of Snow there. Anyway, when I talked to him this morning, they had to pull over at a Truck Stop in Lincoln, IL because it was Snowing and he couldn't see the roads. He said they would wait till it got daylight and see how things are then. I don't know what time they will be home today. They are about 380 miles from home. Hopefully the roads will start getting better when it gets daylight and they can see and make it home sometime this afternoon.

Well, guess I'll go for now. I'm about to finish my first cup of coffee. I need to go and pour me some more. Take care my friends and have a great Friday and weekend. May God Bless Each and Everyone of You. I have coffee for you if I'm not here. I'll be back shortly as I'm going to go and visit some.

LOVE & HUGS,

Hi Karen,

Love the photo of your husband by the indian statue! One of my favorite thing to do on road trips is to find out of the way places and especially museums to visit. Small town history sometimes gets lost and that is a shame.

Have a wonderful weekend. Mine will be hectic for sure. I have to cover a 2 day horse show, go to an honor banquet for that show, pick up a large piece of furniture I bought off of Craigs List and am also suppose to go to a Super Bowl party Sunday night...Come Monday - I am going to be a zombie!

Oh I totally understand, the snow just hasn't stuck here too and I'm so desperate to make a snowman with Squidge.

Happy Friday Karen, What a great picture. On the road I bet you see lots of neat sights. Do you get to travel with your hubbby very often, or was this a one time only trip because it was your anniversary? I posted about Wearing Red too. Stay warm and cozy. Hugs, Linda

They cancelled school for the first time in a very long time and the roads are still pretty bad and it is early afternoon. Alot of businesses are closed as well. I hope your hubby and his uncle make it home safely today. They are in the midst of this massive storm.

I love salmon patties my gram used to make them alot when I was growing up they sound good think I might have to make them here soon.

You take care and have a wonderful weekend and stay warm and safe.

We didn't get the predicted snow last night but it is more than making up for it right now...it looks like a snow globe out there!

Thanks for telling us how you boil the HB meat. I had never heard of it before!

Wishing your DH safe travels!

Hi Karen,
I finally made it here today. I'm getting ready to cook supper for my company. I'm not sure what time they will get here. They said there was about 5 in. of snow where they live and they don't know how much they will have to travel through on the way. It's cold and rainy here and the wind has been pretty strong today. (How'd I do with the weather forecast?? LOL)

I always do my hamburger meat that way. Even though I try to buy the leanest meat you still get quite a bit of grease when you boil it. Good tip for everybody.

I like the picture of hubby with the big Indian. We have one similar here but it's at a barbeque place.

Take care and I'll try to check in off and on over the weekend when I get the chance. Thank you for your prayers and please keep them going for us!

Love and Hugs,
Hope

I hope our favourite weather girl is having a fabulous day:-) I've just come back from running errands and oh my, the snow is really coming down again...I've tried to blow it your way but it's not working! lol

Love that photo of your hubby in front of that large statue! We have a lot of Trading Posts around here that sell various native crafts and I always love looking at them. Such detail in their work.

I didn't realize it was National Wear Red Day today...and here I am wearing all black! lol It truly is wonderful that such a day is used to support women's heart disease awareness...it certainly is a problem that needs to be addressed.

I've just gone over to Deena to enter her giveaway...I've posted the button on my sidebar as well. Those banners are just fabulous!

Funny you should mention having a cheeseburger...that's what I had for lunch today:-) Yummmm! As for boiling ground beef, I've done that often before, my mom does it that way too!

Gosh, I do hope your hubby and his uncle stay safe on the road. I pray for their safety every day!!

I'm having a French Vanilla coffee I picked up from Tim Horton's...it's soooo good! Wish you were here to share one with me:-) xoxo

Neat truck stop picture!! That is some big Indian!

I fry my ground beef but I always rinse it under hot running water in the strainer before using in whatever I'm fixing. Boiling it probably gets more grease out though. I'll have to try that!

I hope your hubby gets home safely! I sure wouldn't want to be out in some of that snow they are having!

Have a great weekend!!

I was disappointed by our lack of snow, too. And it's about to get too late in the season for much snow and for it to stay on for any length of time. Dang it!

Hope your hubby's made in home safely by now. As usual, all the good stuff went to our north and west, and now they're saying nasty things about storms on Monday.

I bought a small piece of smoked picnic shoulder today and I think I'm going to slice off some of that and make a sandwich for my supper. I'm beginning to get hungry.

Y'all have a good weekend, Karen.

Love and hugs, ;o)

Karen, I kept looking at the photo of your hubby, but I was only seeing the top of the Indian's head, lol. I kept thinking to myself - my Karen's husband sure is tall, DUH!! Then I looked down finally and saw your hubby. I should not have told that on myself, but, hey, God knows and you may as well get a laugh, too.

Vanna White had on a red dress today. I didn't even know it was a wear red day until I saw her on Wheel of Fortune tonight.

Now it's my turn to cry on your shoulder. Boo-woo, boo-woo, boo-woo, we didn't get any snow either. Makes me mad. Seems our weather and your weather is always the same, or close.

Have a good weekend, Karen.

Our weather was pretty bad yesterday- very icy. Hopefully you'll get your snow sometime soon.

Thanks for the info about boiling meat. I'm going to have to try that- I always worry about how unhealthy it is with all of that fat. Thanks for sharing with us how to do that.

Good Saturday Mornin' Karen. I hope your daughter is feeling better today! That's interesting about boiling hamburger. I've never tried that, but after cooking, I do drain and rinse; gets the fat out! I hope your hubby made it home okay and you guys have a good weekend.

I'll be thinking of your friend, Deena. I hope she was able to start the chemo.

Hi Karen, I hope your daughter is feeling a bit better and that your husband is now home. Like you, I've been disappointed by the lack of snow. We were promised some yesterday, and one of my daughters came home and we went to the movies, and on the way there was a 3 second flurry, and that was it! Apart from that, it's been sunny for the past two days, even though the news is full of stories of a big freeze, and I'm wondering where. Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog, I really appreciate it.

Thanks for stopping by. We've had a nice day here. We went for a long walk through the neighborhood, ate lunch and napped.
About 4:30 we went out back and built a fire in our pit and sat in the swing for an hour. We did that last night too but needed to take a blanket as it was cooler. We just got the pit last weekend. I've been wanting one for a while so we could sit outside when its chilly.
We've come inside now and I'm making a quick dinner of weiner wraps, baked beans and baked fries.

The train photo was made in Hermann, Arkansas. We had a little get away there this fall.
Have a good night,
Mama Bear
