SATURDAY SURPRISE

Good Saturday Afternoon Yall,

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday Afternoon. I was out visiting earlier and told some of my friends that I was going to post later because hubby had a surprise for me to post on here. So, here goes. It is called "HUBBY'S HOBO STEW". I am going to show some pictures of it first then I will give you the recipe.

The first picture is the stew smoking on the grill. The second picture is where hubby opened the grill up and checked on it. The third picture is the finished product. And, last but not least is a close up of "HUBBY'S HOBO STEW". You talk about good. It was so good it will make you want to slap yo mammy! LOL. I am sitting here at the computer now with a full stomach. Now, in case you want the recipe, here it is: 2 lbs. of Hamburger Meat, 1 large smoked sausage cut up in chunks, 5 large red potatoes with jacket still on cut in small chunks, 1 pkg. of whole baby carrots, 1 chopped green bell pepper, 1 small chopped yellow onion, 3 red tomatoes cut in quarters, 4 ears of corn cut up, 4 sticks of celery cut up, 1 Tbsp. Sorghum Molasses, and 2 1/2 cups of water, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix all ingredients together in a huge bowl. Now you need to make a bowl out of aluminum foil ( about 1 box of heavy duty). You put all the ingredients in the aluminum foil boil and just keep adding aluminum foil around it until it is pretty sturdy. Take out and put on the grill and let cook for about 3 1/2 hours. You may need to add more charcoal during this process. After this stew has cooked on the grill for about 1 1/2 hours, punch a small hole on top of aluminum foil. Add 1 more cup of water. Cook another 2 hours and it is ready to take off grill. Be sure to be care let it simmer for about 5 minutes before you open it up. Please be careful when you go to open the aluminum foil up because it is going to be very hot and steamy. Now, it is ready to dig in and enjoy. This was his surprise for me by cooking our supper for us tonight. "THANK YOU HUBBY, I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!"

Well, we had our date last night. It wasn't nothing fancy or elaborate. We went to Monette and ate Catfish and all the trimmings. It was good. Then we went up to Red Onion, MO and got some gas for the vehicle because it is cheaper there at the state line. We came back to Monette and stopped at Farmer's Market and bought groceries. After that, we came home and I put groceries up and just relaxed. It was a good night just being together and enjoying each other's company.

I am not cooking tomorrow. We are going to my mother's house for Sunday dinner. Monday is her birthday and my sister is cooking dinner for her. There is enough of "HUBBY'S HOBO STEW" left that we can have for supper tomorrow night.

Yall take care and have a great Saturday and weekend. God Bless Each and Everyone of You!

Hugs to all,

Looks yummy! I wonder how much the directions would change on a gas grill? (we no longer have charcoal..)
Glad you had a fun date night..

Yum, I make hobo dinners in foil in the oven occasionally. Hubby doesn't like them but Jessica, Jason and I do!

Now you know I love catfish, so that's my kind of date.

Have a blessed Sunday, Karen. :-)

Love and hugs,

Diane

I have heard of Hobo Stew but didn't know what it was. I don't have a grill but I season meat and veggies, wrap it in foil and bake it in my toaster oven. I love easy meals and that's one of the easiest.
Thanks for sharing your recipe. I think I could do it in the oven.
